Must Have RV Apps for Passing Time on the Road

This post was updated on March 15th, 2024

Long road trips can be tough on your body and mind when your towing a travel trailer or in the jumpseat of  your motorhome. There are times when a you just need a list of RV apps and games you can use during your journey to pass the time. Thats exactly what I tried to organize below. I have taken some of the most popular and addictive titles available both on Apple devices and Android to pass that long ride in no time. These RV Apps vary from war games, to zombie games, to shooting birds at pigs. In my opinion its the random nature of these games that make them enjoyable and will keep you occupied for dozens of road trips. I specifically chose titles I thought were easy to learn and enjoy by all ages. So in the chance that you have a child or possibly a parent with you perhaps you can keep them occupied as well with this list of RV apps.

If you have Android phone and want to get serious about your games on the road you can pick up one of these game pads to make these games easier to play. I gave one as a gift to my brother and he spends hours outside his fifth wheel playing a racing game with his game pad.

The RV Apps for Passing Time on the Road:

Great Big War Game

Great big war game

Taking military “advice” from the ridiculous generalissimo, can you battle your way through this truly massive, content-packed military campaign? This game is very enjoyable if you like board games like risk, checkers, chess, etc. Its a game of strategy and trickery but still very enjoyable. The point of the game is amass resources to deploy troops to beat your opponent by using vehicles, tanks, infantry, grenadiers, snipers and even a commando (if you can afford it). The cartoonish design keeps it light and the gameplay keeps you hooked.

“Plan your mission, deploy your “forces”, try not to fall off the sofa laughing!”

Plants vs. Zombies

Plants Vs zombies

Stem a zombie attack on your phone! This is a weird premise but its incredibly addictive. A game where you organize an army of plants to fight off a unrelenting stream of zombies trying to run right over you. Bear with me, it really is a great game. Its ridiculous under any premise but its a game once you figure it out you will be glued to your phone screen till the battery low warning comes up. As the developers say…..

“Get ready to soil your plants in the hit PopCap® strategy game Plants vs. Zombies. A mob of fun-loving zombies is about to invade your home, and your only defense is an arsenal of 49 zombie-zapping plants. Use peashooters, wall-nuts, cherry bombs and more to slow down, confuse, weaken and mulchify 26 types of zombies before they can reach your front door.”

World of Goo

World Of Goo

This is another interesting game that thankfully leaves the zombies behind and moves to the blobs of goo instead. The point is to use the “goo balls” to build a system of connections to continue the flow of goo. This game like many doenst sound fun at all by the description until you give it a try and you cant believe you hadnt played it sooner! ”

Beautiful and surprising, the millions of Goo Balls who live in the World of Goo are curious to explore – but they don’t know that they are in a game, or that they are extremely delicious.”

Cost: $4.99 (Android) $2.99 SD $4.99 HD (Apple)  Link to Google Play   Link to Apple Itunes

Fruit Ninja

Fruit Ninja

Fruit ninja is perhaps one of the most profound uses of the touch screen on a smartphone. What would you do when confronted with fruit thrown up in the air and a blade in your hand? Slice them obviously. But will you slice them all or miss one? Will you do it in the right order? Fruit Ninja is a juicy action game with squishy, splatty and satisfying fruit carnage! Become the ultimate bringer of sweet, tasty destruction with every slash. Swipe up across the screen to deliciously slash fruit like a true ninja warrior.

Cost: $0.99 – $1.22 or Free Lite Version,  Link to Google Play   Link to Apple Itunes

Angry Birds

Angry Birds

If for some reason the name Angry Birds doesnt ring a bell then it must be awfully dark under that rock or you must not know anyone under the age of 40 with a smartphone. This is the single best selling game on any smartphone platform period. Hundreds of millions of people have dowloaded this game. There now is a series of games, toys, shirts, a cartoon series and other SWAG that has spawned off this game franchise. This is a game you can pick up and play in 60 seconds and easily come back to it dozens of times trying to master it. Its highly recomended.

“The survival of the Angry Birds is at stake. Dish out revenge on the greedy pigs who stole their eggs. Use the unique powers of each bird to destroy the pigs’ defenses. Angry Birds features challenging physics-based gameplay and hours of replay value. Each level requires logic, skill, and force to solve.”

Kindle

RV App

The Kindle app is designed by Amazon.com and it allows you to purchase, download and read almost any book, magazine, e-book, newsletter, or texbook available. I use this for nearly every trip. Once you sync the app to your Amazon account when you purchase the digital additon (Paid or Free) it will automatically download it to your device so you can read it later even without internet access. I highly recommend it if you enjoy reading on trips or even when your lounging in or around your RV.
