Save Money By Cleaning Your RV With Vinegar

This post was updated on March 15th, 2024

For years, vinegar has been known to be pretty versatile. Besides cooking, it can be used for a variety of purposes, including as an all-natural cleaner for your RV. Substituting vinegar over traditional chemicals to clean your RV can not only help save the environment, but it’ll be much easier on your wallet too. Just one bottle can be mixed with water and used as an all-purpose cleaner in ways you may have never imagined – here are a few reasons to try out a vinegar-based cleaning solution next time you’re on the road:

1. Vinegar can help clean up food stains and dried liquid puddles.

This one’s especially useful if you’ve spilled a sugary drink and have areas that are still sticky. Simply mix some vinegar in a spray bottle with equal parts water, spray a bit of the solution, and the surface will be spotless in no time. You can also use this solution to spray down the inside of your refrigerator to help get rid of all the food grime and odors. Thankfully, mixing with water helps tone down the vinegar smell too.

2. Carpet got dirty? No problem.

After a day out by a muddy lake, this one can be crucial. Mix equal parts water and vinegar and spray on carpet stains, then rinse clean. It’ll remove the stain, and there won’t be any soapy residue to clean up afterwards.

3. A simple solution can clean your drain.

RV drains can become dirty quickly. A fast, cheap way to fix this is by this simple combination: pour half of a box of baking soda down the drain and then follow it with vinegar, allowing it to foam up. After it’s settled, pour more vinegar down the drain and continue to repeat until all of the baking soda is gone. This concoction will naturally wash the crud out, saving you plenty on drain cleaner.

4. Vinegar will do the dirty work for you (and clean the toilet).

Who really wants to sit and scrub the toilet? Nobody – which is why you should definitely not waste much time or spend money on expensive toilet products. Pour a half of a cup of vinegar in the toilet and let it sit for a few hours, then a quick swish around the bowl with a cheap toilet brush and you’ll easily get rid of those hard-to-clean spots and stains.

5. Vinegar will make your stainless steel shinier than ever.

While technically “stainless”,  appliances made of stainless steel can certainly lose their brand new look after some time with the accumulation of dirt and fingerprints. To restore these utensils with a shiny new look, simply mix a teaspoon of vinegar with 16 ounces water in a bottle, spray and wipe down. Voila!

These are only a few of many ways vinegar can help clean your RV and save you from the costs of expensive cleaning supplies. Know of any other useful tips? Share them with us below!
