Custom Toy Hauler From a Cargo Box and Tractor Trailer

This post was updated on March 15th, 2024

Just when you think you’ve had an original thought, you often find that someone else had already dreamed it up before you.

Such is life.

A reader named Paul M. from Pittsburg, PA had an epiphany recently only to find some clever craftsman beat him to the punch. Rather then pout, he was so impressed by the custom toy hauler the found, he was compelled to share. For that we thank you!

This project all started with a standard cargo box that you might use as a standalone trailer. The owner then mounted it on the back of his tractor trailer and added windows, doors, shelving and other features.

He also added a custom fold down door with custom fold down ramps attached to the back. But besides folding down and forming a ramp, this door also triples as a deck equipped with a railing.

When not being used as a ramp or a deck, the trailer can provide storage for a vehicle.

This is a custom toy hauler in every sense of the word.

When the car is driven in, there’s a front wheel guide and tire catcher inside the trailer that positions the car in the same place every time. No tennis balls hanging from the ceiling here! When the driver exits the car, he’s perfectly aligned with the storage container door and has a super easy time getting out of the enclosure.

If that does not get you excited, then the good news is you can spot a 5 wheel hitch in the photos – which most certainly means this bad boy pulls a good size trailer (maybe even a custom built one).

Though more and more RV designs are calling for this type of multi-use toy hauler area, creative RV owners are taking the concept several steps further and customizing it for their specific needs.

If anyone knows the owner of this custom toy hauler please contact us so we can get further information!
