Literary Landmarks
Rediscover the Prairie

Willa Cather moved from Virginia to Nebraska when she was nine years old. Her time spent in Red Cloud ended up leaving a lasting impression on her that is well reflected in her literary works.

The Willa Carther Foundation in Red Cloud offers tours of Cather’s childhood home, along with the chance to visit a 612 acre native prairie that they are working to return to its 19th century condition.

Birders and nature lovers alike will revel in the wide open prairie that Carther so lovingly described in her books.
