Less than a year ago, this 1962 Beeline Camper was just another run-down trailer on craigslist. But its new owner, Chris, needed a change in his life, and saw potential in the vintage model. So he picked it up in Nashville, restored it with modern amenities, and moved it out to a quiet neighborhood in north Austin, Texas.
Before investing in the camper, he’d just been living out of his car (dubbed “Hotel Prius”). He’d found it was a great, minimalist way to save money and have the freedom to travel wherever (and whenever) he wanted.
But the camper wasn’t easy to renovate, and definitely not under the budget he’d planned. Chris ended up spending over $8,000 on the project, and months of his time restoring it. He tore out its old wasp-infested floors, took down all of the old lumber, and customized the cabinets to make the camper into a cozy, new livable space.
He’s now happy to rent it out as #MotelCamper on Airbnb. It has everything from a full-sized bed to a firepit, grill, and an outdoor theater with complimentary Netflix. Here’s a closer look!
Welcome to #MotelCamper.
It’s only about 80 square feet, with enough cozy space for one or two people.
The camper is packed with rustic charm and modern amenities to make you feel right at home. Some of the features include: a flatscreen TV just above the bed, free WiFi (with Netflix), and even an iPad mini.
There’s one cozy twin bed, which can be folded out to be full-sized:
The windows and curtains are easy to open and close, and there’s an A/C and heater to help manage the temp.
In the kitchen, there’s a two-burner stove, microwave, toaster, and coffee maker (with complimentary coffee):
You can keep your clothes wrinkle-free by hanging them in this small open closet during your stay:
Beside it, there’s a small bathroom with free, biodegradable toiletries like toilet paper, soap and toothpaste.
Out back, this private shower will keep you nice and clean. The water is sourced from rainwater collection or a garden hose – along with a small, tankless water heater that streams hot water.
Of course, there is a comfy, lush robe provided:
You don’t even need to go anywhere for entertainment. The HD projector out front allows you to Netflix and chill only steps away from the camper.
Movie… or TV show? You decide.
Don’t feel like watching anything? You can always just sit back and relax with a cold brew or glass of wine.
Or you can fire up the grill out front and have a BBQ. There’s a firepit outside as well, if you’re looking to start a campfire. Even if you don’t have any wood, they have logs available for only $1 each.
S’mores, anyone?
It’s currently listed on Airbnb for only $100 a night in CAD – which is roughly $77.18 in USD (based on the current exchange rate).
It’s quite the steal compared to staying at a hotel – and way more homey and charming!
