RV Art: Custom Pop Up Camper and Camper Bike

Custom-RV-Art-Camper-Bike-12

We see many custom RV’s here at DoItYourselfRV, but none quite like this eye catching creation of RV art from the creative mind of Kevin Cyr. Kevin’s custom RV art comes from a motivation of artistic appreciation, not the more common recreational do-it-your-self’er thriving on modification. Kevin is an accomplished artist and his work has been featured by galleries and museums, internationally. From his website we learn of his focus:

In a culture in which people are easily lured by the appeal of status-enhancing symbols, I find beauty in derelict cars and unkempt landscapes. I have always been interested in painting vehicles and scenes that have defined the evolution of the American landscape.  – Kevin Cyr

Its fair to say that Kevin has taken this interest and peaked mine. He has created a pair of RV’s in the name of artistic pursuit. Kevin has named them the Camper Kart and Camper Bike. Whats most unique about these creation is that Kevin uses these not for actual camping as much as inspiration.

RV Art: The Camper Bike

Camper Bike, a sculptural piece built in April 2008. A stand alone piece and the subject of a series of paintings.  -Kevin Cyr

This RV art disguised as a Camper Bike is just as it sounds. Its a tricycle with a custom truck camper RV on the back. As you can see from the pictures below its first somewhat laughable then you realize that its the perfect scale. Then you look over the interior and realize this just might be the neatest RV you have seen in quite some time!

RV Art: The Camper Kart

Camper Kart: a pop-up camper constructed out of a shopping cart. The project investigates habitats and housing; recycling and ecology; exploration and mobility.  – Kevin Cyr

Secondly comes the Camper Kart. This custom RV art comes on top of a grocery cart chassis with a pop up camper top. When you first consider the size it seems as if its just a novelty. When you get a look at the interior pictures you start to see how this is nothing more than a fully functional rolling tent. I think there are some unfortunate souls in many major cities that would find this the king of all shopping carts. The detail right down the pop up sliders on the inside and even a lantern!

At the end of the day Kevin Cyr is an incredible artist with a passion not that different from many of our readers. I encourage you to visit his website and look at the many RV art related works he has done.
