RV Mod Refrigerator Chalkboard Vinyl 6

Always on the lookout for the next interesting RV modification I found quite a doozy in this RV mod for your refrigerator over at weaselmouth.com. Aside from the interesting name for a website they also get kudos for a fantastic idea for this RV mod.  It consists very simply of replacing you RV refrigerator’s front panels with chalkboard vinyl. The result in upgraded surface that you can use for leaving notes or even to add some flare to an otherwise dull RV kitchen.

All you need to do is purchase an appropriate sized piece of vinyl chalkboard which is not costly. At the Amazon link below you can purchase by the foot at 24″ wide. You can order custom length by 24″ wide for your situation and have it delivered right to your front door. The pictures shown above are from a refrigerator space that is exactly 4 ft tall and 24″ wide. The cost would be about $20 all in including shipping.  The chalkboard vinyl has the following features which make this a simple RV mod:

  • Adhesive backed. No glue or fasteners needed.
  • When applied correctly to the appropriate hard surface the film is very durable and scratch resistant.
  • The film is coated with a UV protective layer which will last up to 5 years outdoors.
  • Once applied and bonded to your surface you may clean it and polish it with any type of cleaning agent that is used for painted surfaces.

Once the vinyl arrive you can cut it to fit, peel off the back and stick it to the surface of your RV refrigerator. Until the vinyl has completely bonded its possible to remove and re-alingn to get it right during installation. Over at weaselmouth they report that there can be a lot of air bubbles trapped so be aware of that as your applying it to your chosen surface.

Its possible to use this vinyl in many other places as well for other RV mods. I am thinking on the wall in bathrooms, sides of cabinets (example above), even on the exterior of the RV (How about a “Your names here” type sign on the side of the RV that you could redo every so often). Lots of options so my mind is racing! As always if you decide to take this RV mod to your kitchen or elsewhere please be sure to post photos in the forum or give us links to them in the comments below! Example of a few applications on video below (try not to get over excited by the dance music).

  1. I have used spray-on Plasti-Dip in black. It works great AND you can peel it off if you don’t like it. Also, the Plasti-Dip comes in several other colors to match your RV decor.
