We know many of our readers are fans of ideas that offer a low cost way of creating something useful for your RV or campsite. That’s why this most recent discovery we stumbled onto at DesignSponge.com has us so excited to share. Outdoor lighting on a campsite is something that many have a love-hate relationship with. Cumbersome to setup, they drain power, and many are so bright they attract bugs or so dim they may not offer much in the way of lighting. For years we have used tiki torches in our backyard for low level light, to fight the bugs, and for ease of use. The problem they are just too bulky to take in our RV. When we discovered that we not only could have our own camping tiki torch on the road but we could also build it ourselves, we like to think you know what happened next. After making one we went right to work to show you!
Taking any used wine bottle (or any glass bottle really) and a few items from your workshop or hardware store, you can build your very own portable camping tiki torch.

Interested in Making a MOUNT for the Camping Tiki Torch?
(We chose not to)
- (3) Top Plate Connector (threaded for 3/8”-16 thread rod)
- (4) 1” Split Ring Hanger (threaded for 3/8”-16 thread rod)
- (7) Two 3/8” –16 Thread Hex Nuts
- (8) Two Screws to fasten to the table, chair, or wall of your choice
- (9) 3/8”-16 Threaded Rod
Whether set on a table, mounted to a tree, or hung using a metal clothes hanger this camping tiki torch is just plain neat. Not only a functional source of light and bug repellent (if you choose the right lighter fluid) but also a great item of envy from your friends and fellow RV’ers!
If you are not a wine fan then you can modify this concept using another familiar adult refreshment bottle or other glass bottle. Alternatively, if you aren’t interested in sourcing all the materials, you can purchase a ready made kit as long as you can supply the empty wine bottle.
