4. You’re Towing that Airstream Where?
In 1931, Airstream began with Wally Byam’s dream: to build a travel trailer that would move like a stream of air, be light enough to be towed by a car, and create first-class accommodations anywhere.
Eighty-three years later Wally’s dream is alive and well.
Airstreams still move “like a stream of air,”and the older models are certainly light enough to be towed by a car.
But even the newer, heavier Airstreams are considerably easier to tow than other brands of trailers. To begin with, Airstreams have a low center of gravity.
This means more stability when it comes to turns, unexpected swerves, and gusts of wind.
Airstreams are also built to be aerodynamic.
The wind flows around their curved exterior, cutting down on drag and resulting in far better gas milage than traditional “white box” style trailers or fifth-wheels.
