BioLite BaseLantern Fits In Your Hands And Charges Your Smart Devices

This post was updated on April 20th, 2024

BaseLantern is a flatpack lantern about the size of a sandwich with the ability to illuminate large areas with its 500 lumens of light.

It has Bluetooth connectivity, enabling the lantern to be controlled with a smartphone app. Features like brightness, color, warmth can be controlled via Bluetooth, in addition to cool modes like alarm/timers, pulse, sunrise/sunset, and Morse code/SOS.

The BioLite BaseLantern will make you gather your friends, grab your camp chairs and spend more evenings hanging outside.

An app allows for simple control of the BaseLantern right from your phone.

A real time view of the battery life is visible through the smartphone app, letting you know how many hours are left before the BaseLantern battery dies. The Android and iPhone compatible smartphone app is a Low Energy Bluetooth app so that you don’t drain your phone batteries while using it.

The internal battery turns the lantern into a charging hub through its two USB ports for phones, tablets, and other devices. The BaseLantern comes in two lithium-ion batteries sizes: 7,800 mAh for the original model and 12,000 mAh for the XL.

The original lantern provides 54 hours of light on the low setting – or 4 charges for an iPhone 6 – while the XL provides 78 hours of light, or 6 charges for a smartphone.

BaseLantern also has two custom ports to power BioLite SiteLights so you can expand the area that’s lit up. The hanging SiteLights are 10 feet long, with each light 150 lumens. They can also be controlled through the smartphone app.

BioLite’s hanging SiteLights illuminate more of your hangout area.

This slim lantern has stainless steel folding legs that can be used to prop it on a table, angled for task lighting or hung overhead on a tree branch.

Weighing less than 1.5 lbs., the BaseLantern is perfectly sized for any occasion or location. And it can be charged at home using its micro-USB port or in the backcountry with the BioLite SolarPanel5+ or BioLite BaseCamp Stove.

The BaseLantern is small and versatile.

The feature that I find most exciting is the Proximity Activation. When that’s on in the smartphone app, it will automatically turn the BaseLantern on or off based on your relative location.

~You know those times you couldn’t find your RV at night while boondocking? Or when you couldn’t tell your Airstream apart from another? Now you’ll always be able to find your way home in the dark.
