How To Take Your Camper From Boring To Beautiful With Bright Accent Colors

This post was updated on March 15th, 2024

Lady Wendolyn lives in Manitoba, Canada and didn’t want to suffer through another camping trip in the dull interior of her 28 foot Jayco travel trailer.

Plunging headfirst into ‘glamping makeover mode‘, Lady Wendolyn targeted her efforts on the few changes that would have the greatest impact. To transform her favorite camping vehicle from drab to dandy, she used simple materials and some basic interior decorating techniques like:

  • powerful accent colors
  • vintage (and modern) accessories
  • and “a few little luxuries”

Follow along and you’ll learn how you too can immediately brighten the interior of your RV.

Redesign of an RV Interior

Rooms in a trailer are much smaller than those in a typical house. To create a sense of openness, Lady Wendolyn chose a lively green and yellow color scheme for her makeover.

Here’s some before and afters of her bedroom, kitchen, entranceway, and living room.

Bedroom Before

The bedroom used to be a dark brownish color, with big, empty walls.

Bedroom After

A new three inch foam topper from Costco softens the bed, while a striped comforter and a wooden box and vintage tray (top) serve as a vanity table.

New throw pillows continue the green color theme (middle left), while carefully chosen items adorn the once-sparse wall (middle right).

The beach print (bottom left) gives the impression that you’re gazing out at a gorgeous sunset.

3M Command Hanging Strips keep the items securely fastened to the walls.

Kitchen Before

She originally chose this Jayco trailer because of its kitchen layout. While the general layout suited her tastes, she added some color and accessories to make the space her own.

Accessories like copper storage canisters and an under cabinet wine rack spice up the counter space.

While hooks work well for storing long, skinny items, this DIY shoe storage rack would come in handy down below.

Conclusion

For most people, choosing bright colors doesn’t come naturally. After all, few RV manufacturers ship their models with anything other than a brown or beige color scheme. Fortunately, you don’t have to settle.

While bright green and yellow might not fit your tastes, use this color selector to brainstorm some accent color combinations that fit your personal style!
