Camp and Fish at the Same Time in this Teardrop Trailer with a Rowboat Roof

This post was updated on March 15th, 2024

The original teardrop trailer with a rowboat roof was built by the Tow-Row company in Lynnwood, Washington in the early 1960s. While plans for this combination camper have been floating around for a few years now, the American Dream Trailer Company in Portland, Oregon now builds them for customers.

The company makes the custom, fiberglass trailers for campers who want the best of both worlds: a comfortable place to sleep and a compact rowboat for quiet fishing trips.

The trailer weighs only 650 pounds, the boat 86 pounds.

Constructed on a 4′ by 8′ trailer, two people can sleep comfortably inside. The sleeping area has one side door and a small window.

The cooking galley is different than other teardrops in that it does not have a shelter hatch, but the galley also acts as a storage area and a small outdoor table and prep area. A bed folds up into a small couch and includes a side table for gear or eating.

A rear galley doubles as a storage area and the bed can fold into a couch.

The trailer can be customized with various exterior colors, interior flooring, curtains and upholstery, custom tail lights, a boat assist bar and interior power outlets.

American Dream trailers start at $8,900 and custom features range from $500 for special exterior colors to $100 for a custom galley table.

The American Dream Trailer can be customized with your choice of exterior colors – like magenta!

The boat is attached to the main roof with five hood latches and can easily be removed by two people. Two classic wooden oars, oarlocks, and a generous seating area make rowing fun and easy.

Plus, you’ll be able to quickly launch the boat from shore. At only 86 pounds, the sturdy hull will safely put three people to sea.

The trailer sleeps two people, while the boat carries up to three adults.

If you want to try out this teardrop/boat combination before you buy, there is a version on Airbnb that you can rent for $80 per night in Portland, Oregon. Fishing license not included.
