5 Amazing Camping Meals You Can Make With 5 Ingredients Or Less

Unfortunately, RVs and travel trailers don’t have the amount of storage or prep space of your home kitchen. While it would be nice to go full-on gourmet while camping, there has to be a way to simplify your meals while on the road without having to resort to hamburgers and hot dogs every night.

These five meals can be consumed any time of day, and only require five ingredients or less. In addition, many of the ingredients can be used in multiple ways. Less ingredients means a faster meal and more storage for important things like wine.

1. Camp Quiche

Quiche is one of those meals that can include absolutely anything you have on hand. Just make sure you have eggs and cheese. This particular quiche does not have a crust.

  1. 5-6 eggs
  2. Vegetables (some choices include tomatoes, broccoli, onions, frozen corn, mushrooms, etc.)
  3. Bacon (can be removed for a vegetarian meal)
  4. Shredded cheese
  5. Salt and pepper to taste

Slice up the bacon and fry until crisp. Chop up vegetables. Whip the eggs in a bowl. Add the cooled bacon, vegetables, and shredded cheese to the eggs. Add salt and pepper. Pour the mix into a pie pan or shallow dish. Bake the quiche at 350°F for about 35-40 minutes until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean. You can also put the pie dish into a covered Dutch oven and bake over charcoal or coals.

2. Asian Fried Rice

With this easy meal, you can cook the rice ahead of time and store it in your fridge or cooler to use later on.


  1. Rice
  2. Cooking oil
  3. Vegetables (broccoli, frozen peas, frozen corn, onions, white cabbage, etc.)
  4. Soy sauce
  5. 1 egg

Heat up the cooking oil in a pan and add the chopped vegetables. Fry until the vegetables are nearly cooked. Add the rice to the pan and cook until it is slightly brown. Add 2-3 turns of the soy sauce until the rice is flavored. Crack the egg raw onto the rice and let it cook for 2-3 minutes. Slowly mix the egg into the rice, and allow it to cook for about 5 minutes, or until it appears done.

3. Fish Tacos

While regular tacos are a camping staple, fish tacos add a little zest to the picnic table. You can always use fresh fish for these tacos, but frozen salmon or fish burgers are easier to store.


  1. Frozen salmon or pollock burgers
  2. Fresh salsa
  3. Sliced cabbage or coleslaw mix
  4. Sour cream (mix in some Cholula hot sauce if you want extra spice)
  5. Tortillas

Cook the fish or burgers in a pan (or on the grill) and cut into strips. Warm up the tortillas in a pan or an oven. Place the fish on a tortilla and top with salsa, sliced cabbage or coleslaw, and sour cream.

4. Ground Beef Skewers

Beef skewers are a nice change from the typical burger. Just remember to bring some wood or metal skewers or gather up some clean sticks at your campsite.


  1. Ground beef
  2. Garlic
  3. Green onions
  4. Ginger
  5. Red onions

Chop up a few garlic cloves. Thinly slice the green and white part of the green onions. Peel some ginger with a spoon and finely chop. Add garlic, onion, and ginger to ground beef and mix well. Shape the meat into small balls and place in a cold place for about 20 minutes. Cut up red onions into thick chunks. Spear a piece of meat onto a skewer followed by a piece of onion. Repeat until skewers are full. Grill over open flame until the onions are sweet and the beef is fully cooked.

5. Low Country Shrimp Foil Packets

Rather than boiling this Louisiana favorite, grilling maintains the flavor of the shrimp and corn, and the foil packet will keep your hands cleaner.


  1. Large frozen shrimp
  2. Corn on the cob
  3. Small red potatoes
  4. Andouille sausage
  5. Olive oil
  6. Optional: Old Bay seasoning

Cut the ear of corn into four pieces. Chop up sausage and potatoes into small chunks. Add shrimp, sausage, corn, and potatoes to a sheet of aluminum foil. Drizzle with olive oil and mix in a tablespoon of Old Bay seasoning. Place foil packet on grill and cook for 15-20 minutes until corn and potatoes are fully done and shrimp is pink.
