How Denise Came to Wood Painting
We had the chance to chat with Denise over email recently, and here’s what she had to say.
I guess my desire to do wood painting came in my early years, I was quite a crafter as a young child and I continued to paint throughout my college years.
After college, by accident, I worked for companies that specifically made wood crafts and patterns. I sent my own pattern to a woodworking company and they asked me to come to work for them.
I actually enjoy designing wood projects best of all. Mostly the constructional 3 dimensional ones.
After meeting my husband, Kent Wingler, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and we decided that it would be best for me to work at home painting wood signs.
Kent decided to form our Winglers’ Woodworks and we both concentrated our efforts to promote our new business. We began selling our products locally on Facebook and created a small following.
By referrals, we began joining more groups and created wood signs that were personalized to each person’s interests.
I love the opportunity to create a lasting memory for someone that is not just a cookie cutter image, but a personal expression of the individual or family that buys it.
It’s almost like these fans become an extension of our own family, we continue to talk and keep up with them after the sale.
Get Painted Like a Movie Star
RVers are the most hospitable and entertaining group of people we have created signs for, and we thoroughly enjoy talking with them either at campsites or on our computer.
They have a treasure trove of life experiences and ideas that would intrigue the most travelled person. Currently, we prefer to camp in our dome tent.
But Kent’s parents allow us to use their RV for longer trips or inclement weather.
Kent has been involved in aquatic biology for quite some time, so we prefer to camp near water, if possible.
How Denise Creates Her Artwork
Our paints are acrylic based and they are very durable.
Our wood is 1/2″ Red Oak plywood and it is a very durable hardwood.
We chose the Red Oak for it’s particular wood grain and durability.
Kent applies several coats of clear coating to the signs, after they are painted by me, to protect the sign from fading and yellowing over time.
He is constantly comparing products to offer our customers the very best available.
How You Can Get Your Own Wood Painting
RVers who would like to have us create a sign for them should send us pictures of themselves, members of their family to be included, their camper or tent, any pets, any other details that they would like included.
We’ve been asked to make signs with mascots fighting, monkeys hanging from trees, bodies much thinner than the provided picture, a cure for male pattern baldness, and hippies. And we deliver 🙂
This is what gives us that personal connection with our customers, and we believe is our niche.

Can I get the same attention to my novel about a retired couple outrunning a bad cop in their Class A motor coach? I wrote it while fighting through chemo and radiation therapy. It was the reason I sat up every day that I could. Thanks
