One of this year’s most impressive off-road campers comes from the small Utah-based company Escapod. Their new 2019 TOPO series teardrop trailers are built modern and minimalistic without sacrificing comfort or durability by any means. They’re light enough to be towed behind a Jeep (at only 1600 lbs), yet sturdy enough to handle the most rugged types of terrain.
The trailers are built on a powder-coated steel frame with all-terrain tires. Their walls, ceiling, and floor are fully insulated to handle any type of weather. The roof is topped with a stargazing window, Rhino-Rack crossbars, and a Sunseeker awning for shade.
The galley around back comes with a slide-out Yeti Tundra 65 cooler, a stainless steel countertop, LED lighting, and a couple of drawers for storage. For an additional cost, you can opt to include a two-burner stove and a propane tank.
The cabin has warm LED lighting, a Fan-Tastic fan for air flow, and a queen-size memory foam mattress. There is lots of room to store your clothes and gear in the interior cabinets, cubbies, and custom headboard.
The 12-volt system powers the lights, USB chargers, fan, and water pump (if added). You can optionally add 110V electrical as well as solar power.
The teardrop trailers can be painted a variety of colors including their signature bold red, white, black, silver, green, and more. You can also upgrade to have the trailer custom painted to match the color of your tow vehicle.
The base price for Escapod’s new TOPO trailers is $16,500 with an extensive list of add-ons available depending on your needs. You can also customize your new Escapod with bike/kayak racks, a rooftop tent, solar power, A/C, a water heater and shower, etc.
If you want to try before you buy, Escapod has rentals available that can be picked up from their location in Wanship just east of Salt Lake City. They come fully equipped with everything you need for RVing and include unlimited mileage at $125/night. They’re in a perfect location to start your adventures to Moab, Arches National Park, Zion, Canyonlands, and Capitol Reef. If you decide to buy the trailer after renting it, they will apply the rental cost towards your purchase.
They’ve also teamed up with Red Rock Base Camps in Moab for those who would like to try out the new trailers without the trouble of towing them. Red Rock Base Camps have a whole fleet of Escapod trailers and will set up the rental at a campsite of your choice.
Each Escapod trailer is built to order and comes with a 12-month warranty. Check out this video for a full walk-around tour:
