When James Jantzen and his wife moved from Alabama to Colorado and purchased their first 5th wheel camper, they were a bit disappointed. The traditional camper was not really meant for cold weather camping and happened to have tiny access holes that attracted the area’s rodents.
The couple then decided to design and build their own super insulated camper that would have all the amenities they wanted. The High Country Camps camper is a blend of RV mobility and tiny house features.
High Country Camps are built with lightweight steel frames and inexpensive yet beautiful interior components. This keeps each camper light and easy to repair with basic hardware store materials.
In addition to the easily accessible materials, the 27-foot-long campers are also rated and tested to temperatures of 20 degrees below zero F. To make them even cozier, the homes are heated with a propane heater found in many tiny houses.
The extra insulation also helps keep the camper cool in hot weather. Each camper is also solar-enabled and can run both 12-volt and 110-volt appliances. It can also be plugged into a 2000-watt generator.
The camper has a layout similar to traditional sheep wagons and Romani vardo wagons. The bed or multiple bunk beds are located in the rear of the camper and the full kitchen and bathroom are located along the side.
This leaves tons of floor space and room for both people and other gear. For additional outdoor space, the High Country Camps have an outdoor cooking deck with a drop-down table and propane tank. The high clearance is not only great for rough roads, but also for some stunning views from this outdoor deck.
The camps come in several models. The Bison has four bunk beds, a table that folds down and seats four and a full bath. The Pardner has two full beds, a folding table, a full bath, and a padded bench with storage.
The Nugget has an extra long bed that folds up into the wall like a Murphy bed. It also has a table and plenty of floor space. The outdoor deck has a drop-down table for cooking.
High Country Camps can be ordered from their website. Depending on the materials and floor plan, costs may vary. The typical High Country Camp camper runs about $58,470.
Why no photos of the other side??
