Labor Day Trips In Southern California The Whole Family Will Love

This post was updated on March 15th, 2024

No matter where you go this final summer weekend, there are dozens of awesome events that are going on leading up to Labor Day on September 7, and there’s no better way to conclude the hottest season than with an outdoor adventure in the Golden State! Here are some family friendly ideas for the holiday weekend as well as some welcoming RV parks that are available nearby:

The LA County Fair in Pomona

Beginning on September 4, you can taste the sweet cotton candy, go for a spin on the Ferris wheel and/or master a carnival game at the annual County Fair! They have an intense line-up this year for concerts, including performances from artists like Train, The Beach Boys, Lynyrd Skynyrd & The Outlaws, ZZ Top & Blackberry Smoke and many others.

USA Today and past travelers both recommend choosing East Shore RV Park as your destination to return to after a long day of awesomeness at this festival. You can stay at one of their 518 full hook-up sites (15 are pull-through) along the shore of the stunning Puddingstone Reservoir, located about a mile west of the fairgrounds.

From August 31 to September 7 the largest arts & crafts fair is held in Southern California and showcases over 300 artists as well as a Kiddie Carnival with a large slide, face painters, pony rides, petting zoo, and rides for kids ages 3 to 10. Drive about ten minutes west and you’ll find the only beach RV park in all of L.A. County.

The Dockweiler RV Park provides complete hook-ups, a handy pump-out station, hot showers, and a laundromat in addition to a picnic table and barbecue for each individual site.

The Taste Food Festival in Los Angeles

Balboa

Hopefully everyone is hungry, because there’s a ton of drool-worthy fare to taste at this annual celebration by the Paramount Pictures Studio in Hollywood from September 4-6. Some of the participating vendors this year are Dog Haus, Love & Salt, and Prova Pizzeria, though you can find the complete list and also the beer & wine selection here.

About a half hour north, the highly rated Balboa RV Park provides serene pull-through spaces in Van Nuys. They have all of your essential features from laundry to full hook-ups and even a gym where you can get a good work out in (then again…after feeling so full from the festival you may want to pass this time around)! This park’s optimal location is also not too far from Six Flags Hurricane Harbor for additional kid-friendly amusement.

Festival of Sail in San Diego

Your little ones will especially have a great time at this annual event, which is the largest tall ship festival on the whole West Coast!

It officially runs from September 5-7 at the Maritime Museum in San Diego, although on Thursday September 4th vendors and ships are open to the public and they kick off the merriment with an exciting parade. Some of the festival’s activities include a kids petting zoo, arts and crafts, face painting, tall ship cannon battles, a beer garden, on-stage entertainment, a variety of mouthwatering food and more.

A short twenty-minute drive eastbound and you can stay at the reliably comfortable San Diego RV Resort in La Mesa. Among the featured services offered are a fitness center, newly remodeled game and TV room with a pool table, outdoor pool and spa, spacious club room, laundry facilities, propane station, ice machine, WiFi and more!
