You can’t fully experience Chicago until you get a taste of their famous local pizza. Stop by nearly any pizza restaurant around the city and you’ll probably be able to find a good slice.
But – if you’re looking for a spot that also happens to share your love for vintage campers, make a trip over to Happy Camper Pizza. Their RV-inspired pizzeria plus bar is complete with old Airstreams to dine inside, tire swings at the bar, and a wide menu full of pizza and appetizers.
And of course, they’ve got plenty of booze to go around, too.
Welcome to Happy Camper in Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood.
As soon as you walk inside, you’ll notice their host stand is even set in part of an old camper.
In the back, they have two more Airstreams that patrons can dine inside, as well as plenty of spacious table seating.
And sports fans can always catch the game on their many TVs throughout the venue (although most people will tell you they’re usually here to socialize).
Their other two Airstreams are decked out with lights to resemble shining stars.
But the off-beat decor doesn’t stop at vintage campers. Here’s a neon sign you’ll find of the famous Great Lakes.
And regular old bar stools can’t compare to their tire swings for a place to sit and drink.
A step up from old-school photo booths, Happy Camper also features a mirror-lined “Selfie Room”. Inside, you’ll be able to snap a Facebook photo to commemorate the whole experience.
The campers make this place worth a visit alone, but their fresh pizza, appetizers and drinks are just as impressive.
The menu is almost identical to their sister restaurant, Homeslice. Both places are known for having creative toppings and cheesy appetizers.
As for the pizza, the crust isn’t too thick or too thin, but rather a gourmet middle quality. It’s a little crunchy on the outside, but still soft on the inside. Sort of what perfection should taste like.
You can find gluten-free options, calzones, salads and soups on the menu as well. For weekend brunch, they also make a wonderful pulled pork hash and breakfast pizza (as pictured a couple of photos above).
It’s a top-rated spot for good reason. If you’re out near Chicago or making a trip that way soon, swing by for lunch or dinner and you’ll leave a happy camper for days.
