There are numerous ways to rent an RV and explore the country, but some people are just drawn to the vintage campervan. Whether it’s the style, the better gas mileage or the classic popup, there are more of these rental vans available on the road.
Rocky Mountain Campervans has two locations in Denver and Las Vegas, but the company also has campervans for pickup and drop-off in other western cities.
Rocky Mountain Campervans rents vintage and newer Volkswagens, Eurovans, Vanagons, and buses, as well as custom campervan conversions.
All of their vans are outfitted for camping, and the company offers year round rentals for trips around the American West.
Each of the rentals include all the accessories you need for comfortable camping. These include bedding, first aid kits, plates and cutlery, camping chairs, dish towels, headlamps, and even a clothesline. The company even throws in a few games like Uno and a deck of cards.
The owners, Boyd and Erin, are long time Volkswagen fans and own a 1977 Volkswagen camper.
The couple camps with their children and their dog Wilson. Their own honeymoon was spent traveling around New Zealand in a Volkswagen Eurovan for two weeks.
They started Rocky Mountain Campervans in order to bring their love of low key, low impact campervan travel to the American West.
Several contemporary and vintage style vans are available.
These include a new Promaster Pop-Top luxury camper with on-demand hot water, a Eurovan Full Camper with room for the whole family, a classic Vanagon Full Camper with a pink flamingo theme, and a Vanagon Weekender that can sleep up to four people.
The luxury Promaster has a sleeping loft and plenty of storage space.
Rocky Mountain Campervans also rents out VW Eurovan Tin Tops.
These small vans can seat up to seven people and sleep two. Each van has a two burner stove, propane, cooler and 12 volt refrigerator, solar shower, and built-in sink and storage.
The campervans are also available for winter trips.
The vans have a two-night minimum rental during the fall and spring, and a four-night minimum rental for the summer, holidays, and spring break.
Prices vary, depending on the campervan and the season.
During the summer, the ProMaster rents for $310 per night for 4-5 nights, and $290 per night for 6-14 nights. The Eurovans/Vanagons rent for $205-$225 per night for 4-5 nights, and $185-205 per night for 6-14 nights.
The rentals are less expensive during the winter and rent for between $150-$280 per night.
