RV Ladder Mounted Camping Clothes Dryer Mod

This post was updated on March 15th, 2024

If your on the road for long enough, eventually the dirty clothes will pile up and its time for a wash. Doing laundry in your RV can be a chore, not only the lack of space, but the lack of equipment can also make it a challenge. To that end, RV’ers are consistently coming up with unique and ingenious ways to make the process of washing and drying clothes easier. This idea from Don/Shar at the RV.net forums is specifically designed to help those who could use a ladder mounted camping clothes dryer. After a failed experiment with a store bought camping clothes dryer, Don decided to make one custom for his RV ladder.

This design is quite simply just a single piece of oak 1”x2” and 6 feet long. It has but custom fit with a couple of notches to connect snug to the RV ladder on the back of the RV. Additional smaller notches were created to hold clothes hangers suspended away from the RV for drying. At your discretion, we are confident that the notches could be closer together or the piece of wood could be extended to allow for more drying slots on the ladder camping clothes dryer.

Oak was chosen to ensure that the wood could withstand a beating over time after being used and stored consistently. The simple design is self securing. By cutting the notches appropriately on either ladder support, the weight of the wood itself holds it firmly in place.

Now when needed, they slide their custom made camping clothes dryer out of storage and in a few seconds its installed and ready to be used. We know many folks who have paid up to $100 for similar devices that certainly didn’t store nor work as well as this design will. This design allows this without glue, nails, or screws at a cost around $10 if you have all the appropriate tools.
