Integrate a RV LED Light into Your Fantastic Fan

By now you probably have heard of LED (Light Emitting Diode) lighting and its power-saving attributes. So whether you are a boon docker, part of the green initiative, or just plain enjoy the efficiency of your stuff then a RV LED light is the way to go when possible. The trouble is that it can be difficult to add it to an existing RV and make it functional with the exception of the time tested RV awning light LED mod.

A Casita travel trailer owner by the name of Rob came up with a interesting way to add LED lighting by modifying his existing Fantastic Fan installation.Rob created a frame from 3/4” Ash and it ended up about 2” wide. He cut out the backside at an angle so he could have a place to inlay the LED strip lighting. He was careful to make sure they were hidden from view to give it a more professional look. He then tapped into the 12V power from the fan and installed a switch.

Next Rob removed the pop-rivet fasteners that hold the Fantastic Fan bottom casing and attached it to the custom built frame. Then, reinstalled the casing by refastening with pop-rivets in the same spots he drilled out to remove it.

When it was all said and done Rob states “we are absolutely amazed at the difference and feel it has made”. If you were above average in woodshop class and are comfortable with simple electrical wiring then perhaps a RV LED light mod may be worth putting on your “to-do” list for the next rainy day mod!

Of course if you happen to have another model of fan in your RV it should work all the same. This concept could be modified a number of ways. You could make the cut out on the back smaller to push more light out and you have the option to paint the wooden frame to match your interior. What other ways could you see this RV LED light being used? Tell us about it in the comments below!
