Clever Solution to Turn Unused Space into RV Shoe Storage

This post was updated on March 15th, 2024

Attention to detail is important when it comes to finding a place for all your stuff inside your RV. You may even find yourself searching for empty space like a desperate prospector searching for gold.

One area we have always left alone is the base of the bed frame. If you are fortunate enough to have drawers than read no further, but many RV’s simply have a finished piece of wood that serves no other purpose but to support the bed and partition the storage area underneath the mattress.

Chances are you have seen the hanging canvas shoe racks that adorn every big box retail store in the country. They are designed to go in closets or on the face of doors.

Borrowing from that design is this clever canvas RV shoe storage rack offered by Camping World. It’s specifically made for RVs, and designed such that you can hang it horizontally rather than vertically. This sideways setup allows you to hang the canvas shoe rack on the side of your bed or other narrow surface.

Mount it on the side of your RV bed.

The RV shoe storage rack weighs a little over a pound and has 10 pockets that hold up to 5 pairs of shoes.

Frankly, shoes are just the beginning. We have used it for remote controls, glasses, bottles of water, toiletries, and other odds and ends. It’s designed to fit on the side of queen size bed but you can easily wrap it around the foot of the bed if needed.

Made of high quality canvas and with grommets along the top of the canvas, you’ll have no trouble keeping the shoe rack in place with a few screws.

Or near the entrance to your motorhome.

We’re very happy with it and actually went back to get an additional unit so we could stow more shoes on the other side of the bed.

You could also install it along the bottom wall of your closet to keep shoes out of the way, and make use of that bare area under your hangable items! Or mount it near the entry door to your RV.

I am sure there are others so please be sure to share if you have any other ideas on how to use this handy RV shoe storage accessory.

Another good spot is under the foot of the sofa.

If you have a sewing machine or a special friend with one, you might consider simply making your own hanging storage compartments.

Alternatively, you could create more of a bedside caddy to hold your items if shoes are not that much of a concern such as this design from Instructables.com.
