5 Things RVers Should Know About Amazon Locker

This post was updated on March 15th, 2024

Even full-time and seasonal RVers need to receive the occasional package, and the advent of Amazon Locker is making that easier for all of us.

Buyers from the retail juggernaut can retrieve their packages from a bright yellow, self-serve kiosk instead of having the package delivered to an address. The kiosks are conveniently located in hundreds of locations around the U.S.

1. Amazon Lockers are located in most major urban areas in the U.S.

There are hundreds of Amazon Lockers locations, but they are mostly available in major metropolitan areas like New York City, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Dallas/Fort Worth, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, Cincinnati, Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, Boston, Miami, Orlando, and Washington D.C.

However, the boxes are showing up in new locations around the country, Canada, and Europe. Many of them are opening up at 7-Eleven locations and even some RV campgrounds are getting into the Locker business.

2. Amazon lets you search for a Locker near your location

Amazon Locker was created primarily to prevent the growing issue of package theft. In addition, the service could be convenient for RVers who need to pick up those anticipated holiday gifts or that new part for the RV sink or toilet.

3. Locker locations are limited, but they are growing

When purchasing a product from Amazon you can select an Amazon Locker location and set up a time that’s convenient for you.

Once a package is delivered to a Locker, you’ll receive an email or text message with a unique pickup code that includes the address and opening times for your selected location. Type in the code and the compartment holding your package will pop open (almost like the propane cylinder recycle areas at your neighborhood hardware store).

4. Plan your RV trip around a Locker location

All packages delivered to Amazon Locker locations must be picked up within three business days. If your package (or packages) is not picked up it will be sent back to Amazon for a refund.

This means you will need to time your trip to the Locker and be sure you are in town to meet the deadline. If you stick around a specific location, you can also return a package via Amazon Locker.

5. Amazon Locker has no additional fees, but you must follow these rules

There are no additional fees for shipping your package to an Amazon Locker. However, standard shipping and free shipping may not be available at some Amazon Lockers.

Same-Day Delivery and One-Day Shipping are only available in select areas and the Lockers aren’t eligible for Release-Date Delivery. In addition, all items must be sold or fulfilled by Amazon.com and are limited to shipping weights of 10 lb. and dimensions smaller than 16.5 x 13.8 x 12.6 inches.
