How This Engineer Converted A Van For Only $1,000

This post was updated on March 15th, 2024

On a recent trip to Yosemite, Youtuber Nate Murphy met an engineer who converted a van on a budget of only $1,000.

An engineer from the UK, Mark converted his van for a 9-month climbing trip across North America.  He used cheaper materials in places where it doesn’t matter—and splurged more where it does—to keep his costs down, but still have a cozy and functional home.

His ingenious design focuses on the most important things: a comfortable place to sleep and cook.  The bed easily folds up and doubles as a seating area during the day.  He also incorporated a great water system and tons of storage space.
