6 Simple Ways To Make Your RV Feel More Like Home

This post was updated on March 15th, 2024

Nowadays it’s almost expected that if you purchase an RV, whether it’s new or old, it’s going to go through some type of remodeling to make it feel more like home. But I can say from experience that renovating an RV can be a ton of work.

I spent over a year rebuilding my RV from the studs up and even the thought of remodeling another rig tires me out. But to make an RV better match your personality and style doesn’t necessarily mean it’s time to bring out the entire toolbox and max out credit cards. There are simple changes you can make to your house on wheels to make it feel more like home.

1. Faucets

It’s the small details that can be easily overlooked but make a big difference. Getting rid of your plastic RV faucets and replacing them with modern faucets is cheap, easy to do, and will make your kitchen and bathroom look nicer. Not to mention that having a high arc kitchen faucet with an easy pullout will make cooking and washing dishes more convenient.

Windows take up a lot more wall space inside your RV than you probably realize, so don’t let old-fashioned, mismatched curtains take up that precious space. Instead, switch out those unpleasant window curtains for either privacy blinds or a blackout curtains that better match your décor. It’s also super easy to reupholster your RV valances; this article provides step-by-step instructions.

The couch is another potential eyesore if the print is outdated. While it’s easy to simply purchase a new couch, the cheaper solution is to cover it up with a slipcover. There are numerous choices of slipcovers, whether you purchase one from the store, make your own, or simply give it a new personality with a stylish throw blanket.

4. Plants

There’s something about adding plants to an RV space that magically makes it look more attractive and feel more inviting. Not to mention there are the added benefits of plants purifying the air, their ability to decrease stress, and providing food if you grow herbs like basil or mint.

Rugs add warmth to a room, whether it’s keeping the cold at bay on chilly mornings or the splash of color brightening the space. The addition of a rug is one of the easiest ways to personalize your RV so it feels more like a home to you. We especially love these ones on Amazon.

6. Lights

The secret about lights is that they not only change the mood of a room, but they also change the perceived size of a room. Standard lights that come in RVs are functional, but most times also harsh.

Purchasing additional lights to create ambient lighting is the key to making your RV more comfortable to relax or entertain in. If you love the one pictured, check it out on Amazon here.
