Tiny houses offer many advantages over RVs. They’re usually made with better quality materials and feel more homey than most factory-built motorhomes.
Zyl Vardos has mastered the art of tiny towable houses. Based in Olympia, Washington, the company has been making tiny homes-on-wheels since 2007.
Abel Zyl, the founder, spent over 25 years constructing residential buildings. He’s also a founding member of the American Tiny House Association, and the consulting member for construction and design. Needless to say, he’s one of the best around when it comes to taking something from concept to creation.
Zyl Vardos builds a variety of whimsical tiny houses. This one is called the “Dewdrop”:
The tiny house has a storybook feel with a rounded door and 10-window roof clerestory. On the inside, a small bathroom is to the left with a toilet and a unique bathtub.
Zyl gives us a closer look in this short video tour:
The “Moon Dragon” is another one of their quirky options.
This design features handmade windows and Dutch doors. Its domed, curved roof has a 5′ overhang that makes for a spacious loft. A queen mattress can fit in the loft with enough space to walk on either side.
The kitchen’s complete with a stove, oven, and a fridge. There’s pantry space built into the steps leading up to the loft, as well as underneath the kitchen counter.
Their “Fortune Cookie” tiny house is like something from a Disney movie.
It not only has aesthetic appeal but the tiny house functions well. The home’s built with an insulated roof, sides, and floor, along with an electric hot water heater, and 1000-watt electric panel convection heater.
The tiny house has a kitchenette and Zyl moon window (pictured below). There’s also a loft accessible by ladder with a queen-size bed and skylight window for stargazing.
Another design with tons of character is their “Music Box” tiny house:
The design incorporates tons of windows for natural lighting: including three casement windows, a moon window, two large picture windows, two arched windows, and a skylight.
This tiny home can be built with a ground sleeping floor or a loft (or both). The kitchenette consists of a range/oven, fridge, and stainless double-bowl sink.
Zyl Vardos also recently introduced their newest design, the “Damselfly”:
Their latest tiny home includes an open kitchenette, bathroom with a shower, and handcrafted windows.
There’s even more to see inside. Check out the full tour in this video from Zyl Vardos:
On his website, Zyl describes the process of building these fabulous tiny homes:
“These begin as a pencil sketch, then become a model, and finally a fully-developed design containing thousands of rendered parts. This is very difficult work, but it is immeasurably rewarding. Indeed, this is what keeps me going at the end of the day.”
Prices vary on design and what features you’d like included. Most of the tiny home designs can be made longer or shorter. You can also choose to add or subtract options, or even create an entirely new custom design. For more information, check out their website at ZylVardos.com.
