Look Inside This 1978 Airstream Repurposed As A Treehouse

We’ve seen vintage Airstreams renovated for all kinds of reasons, from living and traveling in full-time to being used as a mobile business. One purpose we haven’t seen before, however, is an Airstream that has been rebuilt as part of a treehouse. So you can only imagine our excitement when we learned about the newest addition to The Mohicans Treehouse Resort in Northern Ohio.

The Mohicans Treehouse Resort

The Mohicans opened in 2011 with just a few rustic cabins and has since grown to also include a whole line of luxurious treehouses. The resort, owned & operated by husband and wife Kevin and Laura Mooney, is now one of the largest treehouse villages in the US. Their 75 private acres in north-central Ohio overlooks the beautiful Mohican River Valley.

Their rustic cabins were named after the local rivers (The Mohican, The Killbuck, The Walhonding, and The Kokosing), and three of their treehouses were designed by the experts from Animal Planet’s Treehouse Masters.

The renovated Airstream interior

The 1978 Airstream still maintains its rustic charm from the outside but the interior now has all the modern amenities needed to keep comfortable. The trailer was lavishly redesigned with reclaimed and recycled barn siding walls, floors, and cabinets.

The Airstream now features a skylight and a sauna for guests to relax in. It’s also equipped with both an indoor and outdoor shower.

“This is something I have thought about doing for a long time,” Kevin shared in a press release. “A few years ago, Airstreams were considered the ultimate in camping luxury. My other treehouses were built with luxury features, like the hardwood walls and trim, black walnut flooring, cherry ceilings, ornate windows, and quality furnishings. The Airstream offers a different kind of luxury.”

The Mooney’s long-term goal is to become one of the nation’s most exclusive eco-resorts with up to 20 treehouses. Their other completed treehouses include the Little Red Treehouse, The White Oak, The Nest, The Old Pine, Moonlight, and the Tin Shed.

Their beautiful property also serves as a romantic Wedding Venue. You can learn more about The Mohicans Treehouse Resort on their website, TheMohicans.net.
