Clean Your RV Microwave With This Easy Trick

Cleaning the RV microwave is one of those chores that tends to get put on hold. This is especially true when we’re traveling or camping in our RVs. It’s just so easy to remove something from the microwave and quickly close the door. We may tell ourselves that we’ll clean the microwave right after we consume whatever it is that we heated up. But the reality is that the microwave’s interior often gets completely forgotten about as we get busy with life.

Of course, this only lasts until the next time we open the microwave to heat something up or cook a meal. By then, the interior of the microwave can be a crusty mess of stains and stuck-on food. Gross. Luckily for you, in this article, we’ll let you in on a microwave cleaning trick that will make cleaning the microwave a breeze, wherever you happen to be.

Our best RV microwave cleaning trick

There are actually two methods for cleaning your microwave oven (at home or in your RV) that work very well. One method uses vinegar, but our favorite way to clean the microwave uses a cut-up lemon or a few tablespoons of lemon juice.

Use a cut-up lemon to clean your microwave.

Method 1: When life gives you lemons…use them to clean your microwave!

This lemon trick is by far the best way to get your RV microwave clean and smelling fresh. This microwave cleaning trick requires virtually no effort and gets consistently great results.

  1. Put half a lemon (or two tablespoons of lemon juice) into a microwave-safe bowl or cup. If you don’t have a lemon or lemon juice, you can use half a lime instead.
  2. Fill the bowl or cup with hot water, leaving a little room at the top.
  3. Place the bowl or cup in the microwave and set it on high for three to five minutes.
  4. Very carefully remove the cup or bowl from the microwave and set it aside to cool.
  5. Use a microfiber cleaning cloth or paper towel to wipe down the interior of the microwave.

You will find the steam from the lemon water does an amazing job at softening the debris and/or stains in your microwave, to the point where they can be easily wiped away without any scrubbing at all. We like this cleaning trick the best because the lemons leave the microwave smelling so lemony fresh.

Method 2: Let vinegar do the cleaning for you!

If you don’t happen to have lemons or lemon juice with you, you can get similar amazing results using two tablespoons of vinegar and the same method. You won’t get the advantage of the lemon scent, but it will work just as well for softening dried-on food and stains in the microwave. It’s also good to know that vinegar is antibacterial, so it will eliminate any bacteria present in your microwave.

If you use this method, don’t inhale deeply when you open the microwave because vinegar can irritate the delicate tissue of the respiratory tract.

  1. Put two tablespoons of vinegar into a microwave-safe bowl or cup. Any vinegar that has 5% acetic acid will work for this trick.
This microwave cleaning trick is quick and easy to do.
