How To Repurpose Old RV Parts

The RV lifestyle embodies a sense of adventure and freedom, but as with all vehicles, wear and tear inevitably lead to parts needing replacement. Instead of tossing these old components, the eco-conscious and creative RVer can find innovative ways to repurpose them. Not only does this promote sustainability, but it also adds a touch of personal flair to your living space, both inside and out of the RV. Here are ten ingenious ways to give those old RV parts a new lease on life:

1. RV window picture frames

The charm of vintage RV windows is undeniable. Once they’re no longer efficient for your vehicle, they can be transformed into rustic picture frames. Attach your favorite photos behind the glass, and you’ve got a beautiful wall decoration that brings back memories of the road.

2. Repurposed cabinet wood

Over time, RV interiors may undergo renovations. Old cabinet wood can be salvaged and turned into shelving units, mini tables, or even decorative wall art. Sand down the wood, apply a fresh coat of paint or varnish, and you’ve got yourself a custom-made furniture piece.

3. Tire planters

Worn-out RV tires needn’t end up in a landfill. With a splash of paint and some creativity, they can become whimsical planters for your garden. Stack them up for a tiered effect, or lay them out singly and plant your favorite flowers or shrubs.

4. Light Fixture Garden Lanterns

Those outdated RV light fixtures can illuminate your backyard or patio. Remove the wiring, add candles or battery-operated fairy lights, and hang them around your outdoor space for a magical ambiance during evening gatherings.

5. Seating using old cushions

Cushions from your RV sofa or dinette can wear out over time, but the foam inside may still have some life left. Reupholster these cushions with durable outdoor fabric and use them as comfortable seating for your patio, deck, or even a makeshift outdoor movie theater.

6. Ladder towel rack

If you’ve replaced the ladder leading to your RV’s roof, don’t discard the old one. Clean it up, paint it if desired, and mount it horizontally on a wall in your home or bathroom. It becomes a unique towel rack or a place to hang scarves, hats, and other accessories.

7. Tabletops Turned Wall Art

Whether it’s due to wear or a desire for change, RV tabletops may get replaced. But the original can be painted, decoupaged, or decorated to become a statement wall art piece. Consider adding hooks to create a functional coat or key hanger.

8. Repurposed sink planters

Old RV sinks can be transformed into quirky planters or even mini water features for your garden. Their depth makes them suitable for various plants, and the drain ensures excess water can escape. Anchor them onto a pedestal or place them directly on the ground, filling them with soil and your chosen greenery.

9. Drawer under-bed storage

Old RV drawers can find a new purpose under your home bed. Add casters to the bottom, and they become convenient under-bed storage units, perfect for stashing away seasonal clothing, shoes, or bed linens.

10. Dashboard desk organizer

The RV dashboard or console sections can be repurposed into desk organizers. Once detached and cleaned, they can hold pens, notepads, and other office supplies. Attach a few hooks, and you have a spot for keys or USB drives.
