Danny D RV Tips: RV Fiberglass Cleaner to Remove Black Streaks

This post was updated on March 15th, 2024

RV-Fiberglass-Cleaner

Our own Danny D shares with our readers how to take a common cleaner from LA Totally Awesome and make it the best RV fiberglass cleaner to remove black streaks for the money. This application offers virtually instant results at a nominal cost. Nothing better than instant gratification, am I right? Just like any thing that sits outside, an RV gets considerably dirty when it rains. It causes very unsightly black streaks along the top and side of motorhomes, travel trailers and campers. After years of struggling with overpriced “RV specific” cleaners I pulled some of LA’s Totally Awesome All Purpose Cleaner from my wife’s cleaning supplies and found not only did it work, it was the best product I had used for the application.

Where to get it some of that make-shift RV fiberglass cleaner?

Danny D says that LA’s Totally Awesome Cleaner can be hard to find in local stores. The magic of the Internet means that isn’t an issue. I posted links below to the 16oz and 32oz variations. Choose based on your particular circumstances. Here is to a cleaner RV!

  1. “The nature of the black streak is whatever grime has accumulated on your roof and then run off with the rain water. What works for one person may not work for another because their “black” is chemically different. Sometimes you have to try multiple products to find what will cut through the particular accumulation you have. The de-oxidizers, though, are essentially rubbing compounds that actually remove a bit of the surface, so they should get the dirt.” Quoted by Gary RV Roamer here Read through the link and consider some of the options mentioned there. We like the awesome cleaner because we have seen it work. We can not speak to any other methods effectiveness, but it seems others have found different products that worked for them.

  2. Hello Jerry,

We don’t actually sell LA’s Awesome Cleaner here. Good news is that you can pick it up at the Dollar Tree or on Amazon.com. You shouldnt need more than 1 gallon for an entire RV. You should actually have enough for several cleanings after purchasing that size. You will also want to make sure to have a spray bottle handy for application. On the side of the bottle it will show you the dilution chart so you can cut it with water before use.
