10 RV Interior Decorating Tips To Update Your Space

RVs may be convenient, but let’s face it; sometimes they just look boring! They certainly get the job done, but the colors and materials just don’t make much of an impact. Luckily, there are lots of RV interior decorating styles that can be applied to make any camper cute and comfortable.

Below we’ve compiled 10 tips that will help you transform your RV into a unique space that’s perfect for your needs. Some items may take more time and money to update than others, but every little bit helps! Hopefully, you’ll find an idea that you’ll want to try out during your next renovation project.

1. Replace or cover RV counters

One of the most outdated parts of any RV is often the kitchen. They are cramped, dark, and may use old-fashioned styles and materials. One easy way to add some style and modernity to your kitchen is to replace or redecorate your countertops!

If you want to commit to a larger project, you can replace the countertops with an entirely new set. These can be made from stainless steel, wood, or other lightweight materials. A popular trend right now is to use polished slabs of wood with rough and natural edges.

If you’re looking for something a bit easier though, you can always place plastic laminate covers over your existing counters. These come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but they are simple to use. Just apply the adhesive side to the counter, smooth it down, and your counter will have a fresh new appearance! These covers can look like wood, stone, tile, or anything else, so you have lots of options.

2. Kitchen backsplash

Another way to add some color and texture to a kitchen is by adding a fun backsplash to the surrounding walls. These might be made from ceramic tiles, faux bricks, wood paneling, or any other material you prefer. You could even use something outside the box like bottle caps or buttons!

Backsplash is usually quite simple to apply. All you need is the materials and a reliable adhesive that can stick them to the wall. This is an RV interior decorating idea that many people have been using recently, and it’s easy to see why.

3. Create an accent wall

So we know how to add excitement to the kitchen, but what about the living room or bedrooms? In these main living spaces, an accent wall is a great way to update your space. RV walls are usually quite simple and undecorated. These areas are just begging for a bit of color!

You can create an accent wall by painting it a fun color, adding textures and designs, or by hanging tapestries or artwork. These walls can make a statement in your RV and create a more inviting space.

4. Replace lighting

Lighting is a crucial part of any living environment. Nobody likes to spend all their time under a harsh fluorescent light, but in some cases, lights can also be too dim. Both of these extremes can be annoying, and many RVs run into one or both of these issues.

Replacing the lighting in your RV can make the whole area feel more comfortable. Choose the bulbs and brightness that you prefer and install them throughout the vehicle. Make sure you consider a range of warm and cool options so you can find the best balance.

You can also add accent lights like lamps or string lights. These provide nice ambient lighting. This is among the more simple RV interior decorating tips, but updating your lights can make a world of difference.

5. Add curtains

Another fun and easy way to spruce up your space is by adding curtains. This is one of my favorite RV interior decorating ideas because it’s practical and cute! Many RVs come with blinds or shutters, but these lack personality. Curtains are easy to buy (or make) and all you need to hang them is a curtain rod and a set of Command Hooks. You can also match these to the color scheme of your RV so they will fit right in.

6. Paint cabinets

Cabinets are another part of RVs that can look a bit bland or outdated. They are super useful for storage and organization, but they can make the whole interior look a bit drab. A fresh coat of paint can fix that!

Currently, it’s popular to paint cabinets solid, neutral colors like black or white. But if you’re looking for a bit more style, you can always use a brighter color as well. Keeping the color consistent throughout the RV will give it a more unified appearance. Consider painting cabinets in the kitchen, bathroom, and in any overhead storage areas you might have.

7. Replace knobs and handles

Speaking of cabinets, let’s talk about the handles. This is a small detail, but it can make a difference when it comes to RV interior decorating. Especially if you repaint your cabinets, the old fixtures might not match the design. Replacing the knobs and handles throughout your RV is a simple but effective way to decorate the space.

8. Incorporate plants

Next up, adding plants is always a fun way to add some color and life to your interior. These provide nice organic shapes that will help break up the blocky and rigid designs of the appliances and furniture. There are several hardy houseplants that can thrive in an RV interior, even if they only get a limited amount of light.

You can also add a window herb garden to help you add some fresh ingredients to meals on the road. Herbs like basil, chives, and thyme are easy to grow and provide nice scents and colors.

9. Add extra shelving options

One important aspect of RV interior decorating is balancing style and functionality. One great way to improve both of these things is by adding shelving and hanging storage throughout your space! This could include wall-mounted baskets, hammock-style storage, exterior shelves, or just spare hooks to hang things from.

You’ll increase the amount of storage space you have, and you can use these new fixtures for decorative or utilitarian purposes.

10. Don’t forget the bathroom!

Finally, don’t overlook the bathroom during your remodel. These areas are often closed off, so it’s easy to ignore them. However, if you want to spruce up your space, consider working on the bathroom a bit too. With a few simple updates like a colorful shower curtain, new towels, and maybe some wall decals, you can turn this space into a vibrant area that fits in with the rest of your RV.
