Occasionally I will see real dining table and chairs in a RV and I always wonder how they do without all that extra storage. Clearly there is no replacing all that space but a contributor named “Professor95” from Woodalls Blog came up with a series of clever RV storage ideas shows off this way of replacing a portion of that storage through the use of a piano hinge and a piece of thin plywood. When it comes to RV storage ideas, this one wont find a place for your Campfire in a Can (or any other large item) but it will be a great place to store playing cards, paperwork, kitchen items, remote controls, manuals, tools, etc. As you can see from the image below that to the untrained eye there is no way to know that this hidden storage is available. Reminds me just a bit of something magicians may use for their illusions!
This RV storage ideas mod can be done on nearly any chair. All that is required is it have a seat base thick enough to warrant a storage box. You also need to be able to remove the seat. Typically the seat is fastened with screws from the bottom or also secured with glue. You can usually identify the screw version by flipping the chair over and noticing either brackets underneath or holes in the base for the seat. Cross your fingers that there is not glue!
Steps for this RV Mod:
1. Remove the Seat
2. Add a Piano Hinge to the front of the chair as pictured
3. Attach Fiberboard or thin plywood underneath to create the storage bin.
4. Fill your chairs with goodies and enjoy!
