If you have been following DoItYourselfRV for a while you have seen your fair share of RV remodels. Some are structural, others aesthetic. The ones that are easiest on the eyes tend to get the most rave reviews. That is were RV decorating comes in. It is a skill similar to traditional decorating with the incorporation of the limitations of a moving vehicle. Today we have one of the finest RV decorating examples we have come across courtesy of HGTV.
The owner of this RV, who goes by HARBORLIZARD, had an RV like many of us, that was sorely in need of an update. The intent was to draw heavily from nature while also keeping a modern feel. It was also a chance for the couple to spend some quality time together apparently. If you have ever worked on a project with a significant other, then you know that “quality time” can be hit or miss. Proceed with caution!

RV Decorating Before and After
All the work shown in the before and after photos was done by the owners. There was a large amount of RV decorating that took place along with some replacement of fixtures and addition of tile.
Renovation Included:
- Painted woodwork and cabinets
- Replaced cabinet and other interior hardware
- Put down tile
- Added a slipcover to the couch
- Painted walls
- Added new bathroom and kitchen fixtures
- Made curtains by hand
- Painted the ceiling fan
- Added vinyl decals to the walls
When it was all said and done, the total bill for this incredible example of RV decorating was $1,500. It seems to look more like the lobby of a modern hotel rather than a RV interior. Of course this look isn’t for everyone but it shows yet another great example of a relatively low cost way to renovate a tired RV interior. How did they address the areas where the factory (vinyl?) wall paper has wrinkled up, usually around corners of windows, for one example?
Hi Steve, the owners used interior latex paint. They applied 1 coat of primer and 2 top coats. No additional prep work was done with the exception of the primer.
These renovations are beautiful. Did you paint over the existing wall finishing/wallpaper or did you strip it? – Steve
