Nationwide Homes Eco Cottages Might Make Perfect Tiny Houses

While Nationwide Homes line of modularly constructed cottages are designed to serve as auxiliary or vacation dwelling units, the design details and simple, quick construction would also make them ideal for anyone with an appropriate property situation for a permanent tiny home.

Nationwide Homes offers a variety of designs, this one has classic “trolley car” lines.

Not only are these living units small, but they’re intentionally designed with an ecologically friendly, self-sustaining lifestyle in mind. The cozy homes start at about 200 square feet and go up, featuring some nice architectural details and a wide range of styles.

With modular prefab construction techniques, almost any layout is possible simply by adding another module – sort of like with LEGOs. Designs can be changed and space added. They also include a lot of extra features in their builds, like shaded porticos, built on decks and porches, and window awnings to help with climate control.

All of the homes include standing ridge metal roofs, which will last up to 50 years and the exteriors are designed to be low maintenance. The beautiful 3-D renderings on their site provide plenty of day-dream fodder.

The company is currently housed in Virginia, where they’ve been in business since 1959. Nationwide serves 14 Southeast states right now, which allows them to build each home to specific local building codes and standards.

One of the huge advantages of modular, prefab construction is the short construction time, a factor that often short circuits plans to start a tiny house lifestyle.

Unfortunately, they’re not available in all fifty states, but similar companies provide this type of construction in most places in the continental US. The cost is a bit higher than DIY, but often cheaper than some of the luxury tiny home builders you might be familiar with, plus they meet all local codes and are completed on a much shorter schedule.
