RV cabinets are the gatekeepers of storage areas. They stand between you and what you stashed behind them. They are also one of the most useful places to add functionality to your RV.
After all, we have posts about turning a cabinet door into storage for cookware and a spot to have a message board. Frankly, that is just scratching the surface.
Recently, one of our readers who goes by Pat M. sent us over a unique way to create some additional RV cabinet door storage that she borrowed from Ana-white.com. We are huge fans of Ana’s work and this RV cabinet door storage design proves yet again why that is the case.
From her home in Alaska she comes up with some great concepts that translate well to recreational vehicles.
The design simply integrates a paper towel holder and a shelf to house cleaning supplies, tools, or any other bottom-cabinet item. All it takes is 5 cuts of wood to make this a reality.
Custom door organizer for lower cabinets.
Materials needed for this RV cabinet door storage shelf:
- 1 – 1×6 at least 6’ long
- 1 – 1×2 at least 2’ long
- 2″ finish nails or 2″ trim screws
- 4 – Small L brackets with screws (for attaching unit to the inside of the cabinet door)

Make sure you have these tools on hand as well:
- Tape Measure
- Square
- Pen or Pencil
- Safety Goggles
- Hearing Protection
- Drill
- Jigsaw or Coping Saw
- Countersink Bit
Ana estimates that you can have this storage unit up on a cabinet door, such as that inside your RV, for about $10 and only 30 minutes of labor. That is a small price to pay for the accessibility and convenience of added RV cabinet door storage.
We’re considering making a spot for foil and plastic wrap just above or below the paper towels. Perhaps there won’t be room and we could also just make a pair of them! The only downside is you have to be choosy on the cabinet you install this in. Obviously room is needed inside the cabinet. If there is shelving or it is overloaded with gear it could be a whole lot of work for nothing. Measure twice and cut once!

Alternatively you could just mount a horizontal paper towel holder on the inside of your cabinet and call it good!
Great piece of advice, Thanks Ray!
Nice mod! I would add, it may be required to beef up the door hinge hardware, in some RVs these days the hinge is barely adequate to hold the door on never mind additional loads.
