This Modern Ultra-Light Fiberglass Camper Showcases The Beauty Of Modular Design

This post was updated on May 8th, 2017

Are you a small RV lover? Happier Camper currently operates an RV rental company in Los Angeles, California. They don’t rent just any RV though. When you go to Happier Camper you’ll have the option of choosing one of their several modern (or vintage) ultra light fiberglass travel trailers.

Derek, the owner of Happier Camper, started the business in 2010 after growing up in Canada with a dad who loves vintage campers himself.

My father in Canada is a Vintage trailer fan and has been restoring Ultra lights since I can remember.  One day he asked me if I would like to use his retro ’60s Boler trailer for a convention to transport product. As soon as it rolled off the truck I was in love.

After the convention, Derek camped in the trailer throughout California, and found his own passion for ultra light camping.

As my love affair grew with the little trailer, I started restoring other Ultra Lights and soon found myself with a driveway full of these quirky fiberglass campers . “The Happier Camper” is the result of this, a venture featuring new and restored vintage Ultra Light trailers with an emphasis on eco-friendly designs.

Recently, he decided to develop his own ultra light camper trailer, based on the vintage Boler trailer design.

Happier Camper HC1 Prototype Modular Travel Trailer

This petite prototype camper from Happier Camper looks a lot like tiny campers of yesterday. If you squint your eyes you might notice a resemblance to Ray Olecko’s original Boler camper.

While Happier Camper hasn’t released many specifics of the HC1, we do know that it will weigh less than 1,200 pounds so that just about any car can safely pull it. This is supposed to be an ultra light camper after all!

This prototype could soon shake up the ultra light travel trailer market.

  1. If they are affordable after production is underway I want one! I have always tent-camped, but many campgrounds require hard-shell campers only (due to bears). This looks like a very well-designed hard-shell tent; and it would not require me to get a different vehicle.

  2. I own a Boler…I would absolutely trade it in for the HC1. The Boler was all about light weight in price too…for families. It looks like the HC1 is not aiming for the same light market.
