Practical Under-Bed Storage Solutions for Your RV

This post was updated on March 27th, 2024

For RV enthusiasts, space is a premium commodity. Every square inch counts, and finding creative ways to store belongings can make all the difference in your traveling comfort and efficiency. One such space in many RVs is the area under the bed. In this article, we’ll explore practical and easily implementable under-bed storage ideas to enhance your RV living experience.

1. Opt for a Bed Lift System

If you’re looking for a convenient way to access your under-bed storage and your RV bed did not come pre-installed with one, a bed lift system can be a game-changer. RV bed lift kits are designed for simplicity and ease of use. They allow the mattress and underboard to be lifted, providing quick and easy access to the storage space beneath. This access point is especially beneficial for storing and organizing larger items like outdoor gear.

2. Install Cabinet Doors for Easy Access

A practical under-bed storage solution is the installation of cabinet doors along the sides of the bed. This approach creates an accessible storage space where items can be easily reached without the physical effort of lifting.

Measure the space along the sides of your bed and choose doors that fit these dimensions, keeping in mind the overall aesthetic of your RV. Lightweight materials are recommended to minimize additional weight.

3. Vacuum-Sealed Bags for Maximizing Under-Bed Storage

Vacuum-sealed bags are a simple yet highly effective way to maximize under-bed storage space. They are perfect for compressing bulky items like seasonal clothing, bedding, and pillows. By removing the air, these bags significantly reduce the volume of the contents, making it easier to store more items under the bed.

4. Utilize Hanging Shoe Organizers

Adding hanging shoe organizers under the bed is a smart way to keep smaller items neatly arranged and easily accessible. Attach these organizers to the bed frame or place them along the sides under the bed for a practical solution to store electronics, charging cables, socks, jewelry, beauty products, or any other small items. Both plastic and fabric organizers work quite well along the edges of beds.

5. Add Multi-Purpose Furniture

Integrating multi-purpose furniture, such as ottomans or benches with storage capabilities, at the foot of the bed can provide additional under-bed storage space. This approach is particularly beneficial for those looking to add extra seating in their RV while also enhancing storage. Choosing furniture that complements the interior of the RV and opting for lightweight options ensures both aesthetic appeal and practicality.
